Dialogue of the Affections

Love, longing, joy, pain: Baroque music as a direct language of human feeling.

InstrumentationFlexible Baroque formation
Durationapprox. 60–75 minutes

Concept

In the Baroque era, music was an art of the affects. Dialog der Affekte shows how precisely composers could transform emotions into sound, rhythm and musical gesture. Dance movements, improvisatory freedom, cantabile lines and virtuosic contrasts create a living conversation.

Knowledge of historical style meets direct stage presence: Baroque music is heard not as a distant art form, but as music full of characters, tensions and surprising intimacy.
