Cuban Dances – Vol. I
Two concert flutes
Three original Cuban dances for two flutes: Mambo, Habanera and Guajira. A meeting of Cuban musical tradition and contemporary writing for duo.
Cuban Dances — Volume I opens a collection of original compositions by Alberto Rosas dedicated to the meeting of Cuba’s musical genres and the expressive possibilities of two concert flutes.
This first volume brings together three dances: Mambo, Habanera and Guajira. Each represents a distinct point of reference within the Cuban musical world, from the energy associated with mambo to the evocative character of habanera and the rural roots of guajira.
Through original writing for two instruments of the same family, the collection brings these references into chamber music. The duo format offers a way to explore Cuban repertoire through the relationship between two instrumental voices while preserving each dance’s artistic identity.
This volume is intended for flautists wishing to add original Cuban-inspired compositions to their chamber repertoire, both for performance and for teaching.
Mambo, Habanera and Guajira form the first chapter of a collection presenting different facets of Cuban musical culture through the concert flute.
